Biography
Philip has been a practising artist since leaving University in 1993, graduating with a degree in sculpture at Staffordshire University. He has exhibited widely both in the UK and internationally through gallery shows and Art fairs and regularly undertakes commissions, working for both corporate and private clients. He has also run several workshops and classes and has recently been appointed the role of Head of Art at Barfield School in Farnham.
Drawing and photography are central to his practice as a starting point for his paintings. His work can go from figurative to abstraction and back again, combining a fluid painting style with a more rigid drawing technique. His abstract work can come from layering or a reductive painting process but is never abstract from nothing.
Philip has always been inspired by nature and his latest body of work looks at plant life and conservatories, taking inspiration on trips to Kew and RHS Wisley gardens, for example.
